Class Description

This year, kids can join us for our 5-Day Kids Skills Camp and master new skills each day with unique and exciting menus. Kids are invited to sign up for Camp 1, Camp 2, or BOTH!

Our Kids Skills Classes are designed to help kids develop a strong foundation of skills for a lifetime of success in the kitchen! Join Chef Janon for an educational and entertaining cooking class where everyone gets to learn hands-on each step of the process to safely create a variety of age-appropriate, yet challenging recipes. Kids will laugh and learn as they build their confidence and master important, lifelong skills like proper knife handling, stove top safety, measuring, weighing, and more! Participants will get to take home any leftovers as well as exclusive brag-worthy recipes to recreate and impress.

CAMP 2:
(Note: Knife Skills 101 is a prerequisite. If your child has already taken our past Knife Skills class, they qualify.)
Tuesday: Bread Making –
Kids KNEAD this class! 😊 See what I did there. Kids will learn how to weigh and measure and gain self-reliance as they master the critical scientific techniques of bread making. I mean, they’re MAKING bread, but not just fabulous, fluffy dinner rolls, they’ll also master flat breads including naan, plus cheese crackers made with real cheese, of course. I even get to witness them light up when they realize the they can make butter – all kinds – from scratch!

Wednesday: Convenient Cooking – This one is perfect for kids who can’t quite master (or reach) the stovetop yet. A play on our immensely popular Instant Pot class, we will utilize our hydraulic tables for easy access so that the kids can be up front and center with these convenient cooking tools. I’ll show them breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes all in one pot, which means less dishes too! Don’t worry if you don’t have one of these contraptions at home. The techniques learned in class (and the recipes received) can also work on the stovetop or oven as well. We’ll also have non-animal proteins available for any of our vegetarians out there!

Thursday: Pasta from Scratch – When I told my son about the new Pasta from Scratch kids’ class (and the fact that we’re making homemade alfredo) he yelled, “I’m taking that one!” I mean, this is my kid so he has access to this instruction daily, but he was so excited about the idea of sharing this experience with other kids that, who knows, maybe you’ll even see him there! Now imagine enjoying fresh pasta made with only fresh, high-quality ingredients. Yum!

Friday: Lunch Box Life – Parents always feel better when we send our kids to school with healthy snacks and a balanced meal. If yours are anything like mine, those whole apples and fresh veggies seem to enjoy their daily fieldtrip to school, only to find their way back in my fridge… I’ve found that giving kids control of these daily choices gives them confidence and accountability (and things get eaten), not to mention that packing their own lunch means one less thing for us parents to do in the morning (missing shoes anyone???). I’m going to get these kids so excited about packing their own lunch that they’ll be begging to get back to school (well… I’ll definitely try, at least!).

Saturday: Burger Blast – What goes into the perfect burger? Is it the type of meat? (Don’t worry… we’ll have non-animal proteins available for any of our vegetarians out there – and it’s a fabulous way to introduce all those carnivorous kids to other options!) Is it the toppings like Magic Mayo or Killer Ketchup? Maybe it is the ever-present partners like real French Fries or the Perfect Pickle…. Well, this class is where we find out because these kids are going to rock all of these recipes and more!

*Please Note: Kids Skills Classes are designed for kids ages 8 to 12, but are open to teens ages 13 to 16. Older or more experienced kids will receive more challenging recipes to master new advanced skills! No chaperones/spectators permitted in class.

Kids Classes are available throughout the year during school breaks or by booking a Private Class.
